Liberia
Heavy flooding in Liberia on Friday cut off the main road leading from the Roberts International Airport to the capital, Monrovia, forcing drivers and commuters to turn away, while thousands of residents have been rendered homeless.
Regular business activities in Joe Blo Town were at a standstill yesterday and vehicles leaving Monrovia to other towns in Liberia turned away as passengers.
“We are just living by the grace of God. As you can see, majority of the people are on the road next to the water. We made scaffold to hang our belongings. There are no canoes to get people out. Those who can swim are the only ones you see around the roadside,” said Al Banyou, the chief of Jow Blo town.
Several areas are reported to be flooded and residents are being forced to relocate as streams have overrun bridges.
So far, no fatalities have been reported.
